Dublin Photographer Takes Portraits on the Same Bridge for 50 Years

Street photographer Arthur Fields was a Dublin legend. From the 1930s to the 1980s, he stood on Dublin’s O’Connell Bridge and earned a living by photographing the families, young couples, and groups of friends passing by. Although he took hundreds of thousands of photos throughout his career, none of the negatives survive. Fortunately, El Zorrero Films has started a project called ‘Man on Bridge‘ to crowdsource these photos from personal collections, essentially creating a “photographic archive of Dublin city, one that reveals how we lived, how the city and its people changed over fifty years.”

Check out the project’s website to browse the full collection and submit photos. You can also watch great video clips about Arthur’s experience and the photos he took on Vimeo.
