Eerie Images of an Abandoned Shopping Mall by Dan Wampler

When Crestwood Mall closed after 56 years of operation, Dan Wampler asked for access to the empty building to take pictures. Permission was granted, and these are some of the eerie images he captured with HDR. Dan calls himself a digital artist rather than a photographer because of the way he processes his images. “A photographer captures images of reality and presents it for all to view. I capture an image, then alter it to create my vision of reality,” he explains. Many of these HDR images required exposure times of over 5 minutes due to the low light, and most were shot at f22 to get as much depth as possible. The finished images have a look ranging from 3D to surreal.

I like the expansive look of these images. They really capture the feeling of emptiness to an area that used to be so full of people.
