Iconic Photos of Muhammad Ali by Al Satterwhite

Back in the 1970s, photographer Al Satterwhite got to spend a lot of time with Muhammad Ali, who was preparing for his upcoming fights. Muhammad Ali had been suspended from boxing—because he refused to be drafted into the Army—and these would be his first fights in four years. Al’s great photos show Ali as the iconic boxer we all know, but also in more self-reflective moments. Over the years, Al had practically forgotten these photos. “The negatives sat in my files until recently when I started looking at what I have photographed over the years,” he says. He’s now trying to publish his photos as a book called The Secret of Mohammad Ali, funded through a Kickstarter campaign.
