Pretty Flower Bouquets – Shabby Chic Photography by Sylvia Cook

Sylvia Cook‘s father was a photographer, so she grew up around a studio, chemicals, a darkroom and photo equipment. After college, she started getting into digital photography and eventually began running her own business, specializing in portraits with natural lighting. Although she tends to be oriented towards sharp detail, she’s been experimenting lately with soft textures and layers in Photoshop. This technique works well with her favorite style of design, called ‘shabby chic’, which combines posh decor with a distressed, antique appearance.

I like the hi-key finish of the flowers! Do you use totally rad actions? Hi-keys are very risky and your monitor must really be calibrated well to get a good balance. Or you will end up with just blown out photos. Thank you for the inspiration!

Hi Antonio, I do have Rad actions, but rarely use them. Not used on these images at all.

I love the use of the texture. It really gives a painterly quality to the images.
For some types of images I don’t like texture too much (it can seem to artifical), but for these flower shots its works!
